They are supernatural beings known for their wings and psychic strength. While they have been called many things throughout the centuries, the term that sticks among any other is "Angel"; the word used to describe the servants of God and protectors of people. They are characteristically tall and beautiful, with a height range of six through six and a half feet for females and six and a half to seven and a half feet for males. Depending on the Angel's size, their wingspan can be up to twice the size, though their weight and muscle mass is usually relatively low. [/style]
KNOWN SUB-SPECIES [style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:15px; background-color:303030;]Archangels - are extremely rare cases of breeding that makes a powerful type of avian. Archangels are bigger, stronger and faster than normal Angels and are distinguished by their wings; as where Angels only have a single pair of wings ( 2 wings ), Archangels can have up to three pairs of wings ( 4 - 6 wings ) each set smaller than the last ( down-scaled by half each size ) and layered over the other at the scapulars. Archangels are heavier than their Angel counterparts, with larger muscle mass, though Angels are taller. [/style][style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:15px; background-color:303030;]Wingless Angels - are Angels who lack wings and are considered to be born of a recessive gene. They are actually quite normal in the Avian species as at least one Angel out of every generation will be wingless. They look the same as any other Angel, the only difference is that they are wingless. This, however, does not make them any less powerful; save for the deprivation of flight. Angels are born into the species, not created like some of the other species in Velveteen. This form comes into play when an Avian experiences extreme rage, aggression or anguish. They will alter into a beast-like form with steel-like wings. Their skin color can range from dark olive green to dark grey while their eyes will turn either completely black or white and they will have three-inch fangs. [/style]

Superhuman Strength - Angels are much stronger than humans, any of the three other species and grow stronger with time.
Superhuman Speed/Agility - Angels are the fastest moving supernatural species known to man. On land, their speed rivals that of Werewolves, but in flight, their speed is second to none.
Healing/Nirvana - Angels are not only able to heal themselves of injuries and broken bones, but are also able to heal others; though not as extensively as themselves. Angels are also able to maintain their vessels without food, water, or sleep. [/style]

Holy Oil - A flaming boundary of holy oil can easily repel or trap an Angel for as long as it will burn
Palm Tree Ashes - Angels cannot harm anyone who carries palm ashes with them. Also, placing palm ashes on an Angel will put them into a near comatose state until the ashes are removed from them.
Crucifix Collar - Putting a Crucifix Collar on an Avian will suppress it's Chaos form and natural abilities if the person who puts the collar on it has a stronger will than the avian itself.
Magic - Angels are vulnerable to the effects of magic against them. The most common defense used, is the ability to give supernatural aneurysms that cause the blood vessels to explode. This does not kill a them, but it can maim them to the point of blackout. [/style] [/style] |

Since the first generations of shifters leading down to the modern day descendants, the genetic roots have split into two different categories of Shifters: Bloodline Shifters and Absolute Shifters. [/style]
KNOWN SUB-SPECIES [style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:15px; background-color:303030;]Bloodline Shifters - are born shifters. From the day they were born they were blessed with their Guardians and will have them until death or a forcible strip. Bloodline Shifters may be naturally stronger or weaker than Absolute Shifters depending on how pure their blood is. For example, if their mother if a shifter and their father is a human or another species, it will be more likely that the offspring will be weaker than a pure-blood Bloodline or Absolute Shifter. The Shifter gene has also been known to skip generations on occasion, though the reason behind this can range anywhere from defects to supernatural complications. [/style][style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:15px; background-color:303030;]Absolute Shifters - start off as normal humans throughout. Absolutes are extremely rare, especially in the modern day. It is said that only a handful of them are left out in the world and only about ten to fifteen ( 10 - 15 ) chosen are made within a two to three ( 2 - 3 ) year period. The offspring of two Absolute Shifters do not make an Absolute; it results in a Bloodline Shifter. [/style]BORN A SHIFTER [style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:15px; background-color:303030;]It is unknown exactly how an Absolute is reborn. The general idea is that when a Human reaches the cliff of an untimely death ( e.g car accident, murder, drowning etc. ), they are visited by a Guardian Spirit, in their last few dying breaths, offering them new life. If they take it, they will miraculously survive their predicament and are reborn an Absolute Shifter. ( If they decline, then the Guardian is said to escort the person to whichever gods they please a.k.a the person dies. ). From the moment the person is saved, their bodies manifest these Guardians and as well as the gifts that they harbour; including the ability to transform into the animal their Guardian take form in.
Being born a Shifter is a little different, as the child does not have to reach borderline death to meet it's Guardian. The child will not meet its Guardian until it's second birthday, but that does not mean it doesn't have one, as Guardians can conceal their presence. Also, unlike an Absolute Shifter's Guardian, a Bloodline's Guardian will grow up and change just as the child grows up and changes. When the child first reaches puberty, it's Guardian will shift into several different animal forms that reflect the child's personality and emotions. The child will not be able to take it's Guardian's form until the Guardian takes "absolute shape"; meaning the Guardian settles into a single animal form and will not be able to shift itself anymore. This usually happens around the child's sixteenth birthday, as they reach adulthood. As soon as the Guardian settles and the child completes their first shift "sealing the bond", they will be endowed with the Guardian's abilities. [/style]
ABOUT THE GUARDIAN [style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:15px; background-color:303030;]A Guardian is a wild spirit form that manifests and gives humans new life as a Shifter. It is unknown how a Guardian chooses it's vessel and why; as there are miraculous recoveries and survivals in the world where Guardians are not involved at all. Myth has it that a Guardian is an incomplete spirit and therefore needs an equally incomplete soul in order to survive; "complete and be complete". Others say that Guardians come to those who have unfinished business and are not ready to die yet. It is also unknown whether a human's personality or emotions have anything at all to do with their Guardian and it's form ( even a Bloodline Shifter's Guardian does not shift into select forms, nor is influenced directly by the Shifter ).
Guardians are rarely seen, even by their own Shifters, unless summoned or in need. In general, however, Guardians are uniformly either black or white in color, no matter what the species or breed of animal it is. Their eye color usually ranges between red, blue, white, black or gold with extremely rare cases being Heterochromia ( bi-colored eyes ). Their most distinguishable physical features are actually features that derive from their Shifter, such as a birthmark; a scar; there were even occasions where a Guardian duplicated a physical feature such as a piercing or a tattoo.
It is unknown whether or not Guardians talk, but they do communicate with their Shifter on an Empathetic level ( such as giving off hints to it's Shifter whenever it it feeling uncomfortable, or happy. The Shifter can usually distinguish this by a sudden change in their own emotions that only lasts a few seconds. ). [/style]
NATURAL ABILITIES [style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:2px; background-color:303030; margin-bottom:-23px;]Guardian Summoning - Whether by it's Shifter's command or by it's own free will, a Guardian can materialize itself to be seen not only by it's Shifter, but by other people as well. This often happens whenever the Shifter asks or if the Guardian feels that it's presence needs to be known Physically. It can also choose to veil itself so that only it's Shifter can see it; a more preferred and discreet method that it takes unless it has a reason otherwise ( e.g to protect it's Shifter or scare off threats etc. ).
Animal Empathy - A Shifter will be able to sense what other animals of it's Guardian's form is feeling and vice versa. Another effect of this ability activates at certain times: such as if the Shifter is feeling threatened, stressed or lonely, or perhaps for no reason at all; they will suddenly be swarmed with animals of their kind. Obviously, this cannot be in effect if their animal is not local to the habitat ( e.g you won't find yourself swarmed by penguins or african elephants even if that if your Guardian's form, simply because they are not native to Italy. If you were in a Zoo, however, and pass a display of your animal, you may find them staring at you, or pressing themselves up against the glass to try and get close to you )
Animal Mimicry - This gives the Shifter the ability to mimic the abilities, traits, and behavior of their animal, even in human form. A Lion Shifter will not only be able to have a lion's strength, speed and endurance, but the ability to shout/roar and be heard within a five mile radius.
Shifting - Obviously the Shifter will be able to take the form of their Guardian's animal. Bloodline Shifters will not be able to take their Guardian's form until it "settles" while Absolute Shifters will be able to shift instantly after merging with their Guardian. A Shifter will fall out of it's Guardian form if it falls asleep, or if it is severely injured or sick. [/style]

Tie Break - Guardians and Shifters can never be too far away from each other, as they are meant to be one vessel. The farther away a Guardian is from it's Shifter, the weaker they both become; reaching a point to where both may lose consciousness. If a Guardian and it's Shifter separate more than a mile away from each other, both will die of what is called a "Tie Break".
Laser Glass - While it won't do any more damage than a regular piece of glass if used as a weapon, pushing Laser Glass between a Guardian and it's Shifter will cause a "Tie Break"; killing both in the process. This has been used many times as more of a torture device rather than a regular killing method.

Vampires are beings who subsist by feeding on the life essence ( generally in the form of blood ) of living creatures, regardless of whether they are non-human, undead or a living person. They look like any other normal human, save for their fangs, which are retractable, but still slightly longer than the average person's canine teeth. When stressed, excited or predatory, a vampire's eyes will turn amber at the iris and black at sclera ( the white of the eyes ).
Their skin will also visibly darken, especially around the eyes, where it will become a bruised color. The veins in their faces and necks will become visible in a purple-ish hue. Depending on the living conditions of the Vampire, each entity may vary in general appearance. The more frequently it feeds, the more "human" it looks. the less frequently it feeds, or if it feeds on non-human blood only, the more the Vampire will look ashen and dead. Also, feeding on blood of dead humans or animal blood is enough to sustain a Vampire, but will not give it the strength and health of a Vampire on a diet of live human blood. [/style]
BEING CREATED [style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:15px; background-color:303030;]The way is simple, really. A vampire drains a person to near death, almost emptying all of the blood out of them. After a certain amount of the blood is drained the vampire will then cut open their own vein and bleed into the mouths of the person they want to turn. It takes a full twenty-four hours before the vampiric blood takes a full effect, and during those twenty-four hours the person is a death-like state; when they awaken it will be to a hunger that they have never felt before and ninety percent of them will go on a killing rampage, feeding as much as possible, unless they're properly constrained. [/style]
NATURAL ABILITIES [style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:2px; background-color:303030; margin-bottom:-23px;]Immortality - Vampire stops aging once turned. Upon their transformation, vampires then on become immune to all conventional illness, disease, virus and infection. The only known disease or infection that can kill a vampire is a werewolf bite.
Healing - Vampires can snap their finger bones back into place after being broken and have been seen to fully recover from gunshots, stab wounds, and torso impalement.
Super Strength - Vampires are much stronger than humans and grow stronger with time. Even new vampires who are still in transition can toss a fully grown human across a room with great speed and force. Their strength is also more powerful then werewolves that are not in wolf form.
Super Speed - Vampires can accelerate their movements to cover short distances in an instant, faster than the human eye can see. When running across long distances, they appear as vibrating blurs of motion.
Heightened Senses - Vampires can hear whispered conversations, even ones in far off buildings, smell blood, and see in total darkness. [/style]

Fire or Sunlight - Vampires cannot enter direct sunlight without it causing harm to their health; they will begin to burn until their bodies stop working and they become black and charred. Sunlight burns heal more slowly than regular burns. They can cheat daytime, however, by staying in the shade or wearing a special Lapis Lazuli ring.
Magic - Vampires are vulnerable to the effects of magic against them. The most common defense used for practiced spell-casters, is the ability to give supernatural aneurysms that cause the blood vessels of vampires to explode. This does not kill a Vampire, but it can maim them to the point of blackout.
Decapitation - The act of dismembering or removing the head of a vampire will result in death.
Broken neck - Though it is not fatal, breaking a vampire's neck will render it unconscious for several hours. The Vampire only feels a slight discomfort afterwards, but it initially unharmed.
Uninvited Invitation - Vampires cannot enter a house without being invited in. If they are in the house without being invited in they will become disoriented. This does not work with public places like restaurants, even if the owner says they are unwelcome. Home Owners are also able to withdraw their invitation to any vampire previously invited. Even in their Human forms, Werewolves possess superhuman physical prowess.
Werewolves in their wolf form are large, bipedal creatures with wolf-like appendages; basically giant, fearsome wolves that are walking around on two legs. Their eye and fur color depend on the color they are as humans, but that's where the similarities end. Generally, during the transformation, a werewolf's height will increase by six to twelve inches and their weight can increase from anywhere between fifty to a hundred pounds. Other than that, Werewolves appear the same as any other human the rest of the month, apart from the full moon. [/style]BEING CREATED [style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:15px; background-color:303030;]A human has to get bitten by a werewolf and survive their first transformation ( which is triggered almost instantly after the human is bitten ) in order to become a werewolf themselves. The first transformation is quite slow and the person is subjected to at least five hours of intense pain before transforming. After the first transformation it will get faster but still hurt. During the transformation, the body of the person is twisted in an unnatural manner as bones reshape and shift, causing the person immense pain. Later, the person grows excessive and huge eyes that glow and fangs, then the transformation if complete. A newborn werewolf returns to their human form after a few hours and will experience muscle aches. From then on, the change from man to beast happens three nights every month during the full moon, and it's not affected by direct moonlight, meaning the lunar light does not have to be showing. Like vampires, they live for a long time, but they're not immortal. After being turned, about ten years is equal to one year in terms of a werewolf's lifespan.

Super Speed/Agility - Werewolves are extremely faster than any Humans and most Vampires. Werewolves can use this ability in either Human or wolf form. Under the full moon, Werewolves can use their speed in wolf form to swiftly chase down their prey of choice. They also possess superhuman agility. They can move, jump, climb, and run incredibly fast without difficulty or exhaustion.
Heightened Senses - Werewolves senses are far more superior to that of humans and most other supernatural beings.
Werewolf Bite - The bite of a Werewolf is extremely lethal to young Vampires and to Shifters. [/style]

In their werewolf state, however, even the touch of the silver can burn their skin and leave a scar even after they've transformed. A shot to the heart or head with anything silver can kill a werewolf.

While they are not as physically strong as any of the other species listed, or even Gifted; they are known as one of the biggest threats to any supernatural species because of how easily they surpass the supernatural on a spiritual and mental level. Despite being human, even a novice Shaman can easily hold their own against a supernatural for a selective amount of time. Seasoned Shaman have no trouble killing or conquering a supernatural completely. [/style]

Spell Casting - The act of changing and/or controlling events through the use of charms, hexes, rituals, etc.

They are considered the strongest of all species and are considered abominations to existence. Hybrids are very rare, simply due to the fact that they are destroyed as soon as they are born, however there are few that do survive. Those that do, keep their lineage a secret and tend to ostracize themselves from others. [/style]
VAMPIRE/ANGEL [style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:15px; background-color:303030;]Considered to be the strongest of all Hybrids. V-Angels are created when a Vampire drains an Angel of it's blood and feeds it some of their own blood ( typical Vampire transformation ritual ). The Angel will go through a drastic transformation with it's wings becoming tattered and bat-like, it's skin turning a dark olive green to a smokey grey and it's eyes glow amber. The Avian turns from looking like an Angelic creature, into a demon-like form; they grow vampiric fangs and grow a taste for blood. [/style]

This resurrects a V-Shifter. There is also the option of the turning ritual on a Shifter, however, that would risk a fierce battle with their Guardian and it's also less likely to succeed. Hence, there are only about a handful of V-Shifters known to the world. Distinguishable features of a V-Shifter include a taste for blood, along with retractable fangs. Their Guardians also change, becoming a uniform white color with blood-red eyes. [/style]

They are post-human supernatural beings who have returned to earth after they died before certain circumstances had been resolved during their lives. This may be anything from not falling in love to being murdered. Once the said issue has been resolved, a wooden door will appear in the nearest possible location where the ghost must pass through to enter the afterlife. If a ghost refuses to pass on, he or she are often forced to resolve by Angels or Shaman. [/style]
KNOWN SUB-SPECIES [style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:15px; background-color:303030;]Benevolents - These are what most ghosts are. Earth-bound souls who roam the world freely among the presence of the living. There are some who know that they are dead and some that don't, and most people who can see them ( e.g Shaman, Supernatural ) often bade their loneliness away by speaking to them whenever possible. These are known as "gentle" souls because they go unnoticed by normal people and cannot do much to cause trouble. [/style][style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:15px; background-color:303030; margin-bottom:-25px;]Poltergeists - Ghosts that are strong enough to move animate and inanimate objects by their own will. They still cannot be seen by normal humans, and some like to use that to cause a little mischief here and there. Being a bit closer to being alive, Poltergeists are known to be a tad jealous, cruel and lonely than Benevolents; and often miss being alive more. [/style][style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:15px; background-color:303030;]Malevolents/Amaranthines - Considered the most dangerous of Ghosts, they are able to manifest into physical forms, living and breathing again; but at a price of someone else's soul. They are also called Reapers, as it is common for them to "shred" another ghost. Doing so will allow them to absorb the energy they need to manifest into their human selves again. Shaman keep an eye on these ghosts and try to keep them manageable, by sealing them away with exorcism spells; though those work only temporarily. [/style]

They usually seem to do this only in extreme circumstances. As time goes on, they can teleport at will, but cannot take living beings with them; although vampires can travel this way with them due to the vampire's non-living status.
Intangibility - It is possible for ghosts to pass through solid objects, though it is rarely done because it is seemingly painful or uncomfortable for ghosts to pass through solid objects.
Invincibility - Ghosts are unable to get physically hurt and cannot age beyond their death. However, spiritually enforced items affect them just as well. They also seem it interact with objects in a sense.
Shredding - It seems that only Amaranthines and advanced Shaman know how to do this, but shredding a Ghost is the ability of absorbing their spirit or soul. This is the only thing that will actually kill a ghost. [/style]
NATURAL CONSTRICTIONS [style=border-right:50px solid #111111; padding:2px; background-color:303030; margin-bottom:-23px;]Magic - Ghosts are vulnerable to the effects of magic against them. Blood Seals seem most effective in stunning them or trapping them in a certain area.
Shredding - It seems that only Amaranthines and advanced Shaman know how to do this, but shredding a Ghost is the ability of absorbing their spirit or soul. This is the only thing that will actually kill a ghost.
Salt - Ghosts can be repelled by salt and can't cross a line made of salt.
Iron - Like salt, iron keeps spirits at bay. Assault with an iron item will dissipate a ghost for a temporary amount of time. [/style] [/style] |
